Know Your GCWR
Your Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) is the max total weight of your vehicle, passengers, cargo, trailer, and trailer cargo combined. Exceeding it stresses the drivetrain, brakes, and frame.
Tongue Weight Matters
Keep tongue weight between 10-15% of the total trailer weight. Too little causes trailer sway; too much overloads the rear axle and lifts the front wheels, reducing steering control.
Braking Distance Doubles
Towing adds significant weight, which increases stopping distance dramatically. Leave extra following distance, brake earlier, and use a lower gear on downhill grades to avoid overheating your brakes.
