DON'T GET BURNED
Inspect in Daylight
Always inspect a used car in natural daylight. Garage lighting and evening visits hide paint flaws, dents, and rust that are obvious in the sun.
Get an Independent Inspection
A pre-purchase inspection by YOUR mechanic (not the seller's) costs $100-200 and can save you thousands. Never skip this step.
Be Willing to Walk Away
If the seller won't let you inspect the car, resists a test drive, or pressures you to decide now, walk away. Another car will come along.
Do Your Homework
Research Before You Visit
Look up the VIN, check for recalls, and compare it against similar vehicles. All free.
